President Bajram Begaj visited the University of Calabria to honor the work of professors and researchers of the Albanian language at this university on the 50th anniversary of the creation of the Department and Laboratory of Albanology.
In a meeting with professors, researchers and students of the Albanian language at the University of Calabria, the president praised "this important academic center in the heart of a region that proudly preserves the Arbëresh language, culture and memory."
"This university, which is in the heart of the Calabria region, has another very important mission: to protect, promote and inherit the Arbëresh language. I thank from the bottom of my heart all the professors of the Albanian language and culture department. This is a commemorative year, marking 50 years of this department, and I hope and believe that this department will always experience, will be forever, will forever protect the Arbëresh language, because by protecting the Albanian language and culture we have also promoted the figure of the one who founded this department, Francesco Solano. An extraordinary 50-year work, pursued with great passion by Professor Altimari and many others who continue to study the Arbëresh language, which culminates in the promotion and publication of many works and books that will serve the new generation. It is what we need to build our future, to build the future of excellent relations between Albania and Italy."
President Begaj appreciated the contribution, as well as the continuous commitment of researchers and professors to preserving scientific and cultural ties between Albania and the Albanian and Arbëresh communities as a heritage that deserves special respect.
The Head of State congratulated the researchers for the newly published textbook for teaching the Arbëresh language, while saying: "Here in the hall, the professor proved what we repeated during the day, the saying of Mother Teresa, that when you do small things with great love, you will definitely achieve success. The humanism of those professors, without any financial request, just to promote a book, which will serve generations and generations, as well as the heritage of this extraordinary linguistic value, is truly to be thanked. The foundation of these relations is the Arbëresh community that, with its work for more than 5 centuries, has shown us how important it is to protect the language, how important it is to protect our cultural, linguistic and national identity. Words are too much, deeds are what remain. The works of those teachers that will serve generations, the works produced by Professor Altimari who will "to remain for generations, will produce many other researchers for our future. It is very important that the Department of Albanology in Calabria continues its high mission of preserving and enriching the Arbëresh language and culture."
From the library of the University of Calabria, the President of the Republic joined Professor Altimar's invitation to support, strengthen and cooperate with the three important research and educational centers in Italy dedicated to the Albanian language at the University of Calabria, that of Palermo and that of Rome.
During the visit to the University of Calabria, the President of the Republic was received in a special meeting by the Rector of the University of Calabria, Professor Nicola Leone.
