Mental health problems are widespread in Albania, while the number of patients is increasing year by year.
According to psychiatrists, the number of patients has doubled in the last 5 years.
"Because of the busy time itself, we have an increase in cases. If we talk about 5 years ago, not forgetting two major traumas, the earthquake and covid without fear, the visits have doubled", said Arjana Reli, psychiatrist.
Fortunately, even in Albania, mental health is no longer a taboo, and people who present problems seek help and treatment.
But what worries Albanians who go to psychiatrists the most?
"Anxiety continues to predominate with characteristic disorders of sleep, mood, concentration, or other complaints such as dizziness, loss of appetite, it is encountered in all ages, with a predominance of active young people," said the psychiatrist.
Although the trend of recent years to massively use over-the-counter pain relievers has changed, they are still at the top of the list of best-selling drugs.
"The population itself is informed and afraid of the drugs that create addiction so that they don't go and take it and then, it is the barrier of the pharmacists to give them, but these drugs lead the sales", said psychiatrist Reli.
