Following the protest the day before in front of the Shkodra Municipality, the residents of Rrjoll today held a meeting with Mayor Benet Beci to seek clarification on the project of the company "Gener 2", owned by Bashkim Ulaj, in Velipojë. The residents claim that the company has occupied their land.
Residents stated that Mayor Beci informed them that the municipality has no jurisdiction over the area in question and asked them to submit a written request to receive information on the construction permit granted for Bashkim Ulaj.
The residents said they will continue the protest and that, if they do not receive a solution, they will turn to the United States Embassy. They added that they no longer expect a reaction from state institutions.
"The mayor welcomed us well. He had no authority whatsoever, he said I have zero authority. Of course he said it was unfair, but the law has become like this, he said they have taken away our authority for the coastal territory. My authority is to inform him of what position he said I have regarding the construction permit. He told us to make a written request and I will give you all the answers based on the information.
I know that his information is zero. I do not expect him to give us an answer to what I am asking for. He said that the public hearing is not the municipality's competence. I know that the request to hold a public hearing is the municipality's. We do not expect any hope from the minister and the prime minister. We will go all the way to the EU and American embassies. Either they remove us from here, or we will be killed", said Prekë Molla, representative of the residents of Rrjoll.
This is the 8th day that the residents of Rrjoll have been protesting against the construction of the resort in Velipojë, as they claim, on their lands.
