The stories and legends about the Church of St. Ndout are numerous, and every person who has visited that holy place can tell you a different story.
But how did the Church of St. Ndout in Laç get its name, when the saint himself has never physically visited our country?
Franciscan priest Landi Jaku, in an interview with moderator and author of Quo Vadis, Pranvera Borakaj, said that it was the Franciscan fathers who prayed to Shna Ndout and he performed miracles.
According to him, since the 13th century, people from all over Albania have come and prayed at this holy place, and the saint has answered their prayers, hope, and faith.
Excerpts from the conversation:
-His connection with Albania, with Laçi, why was this place chosen, why did it take the name of Shna Ndout?
Jaku: Our Franciscan brothers came in the 13th century, they came and brought that they had seen in Italy that people had devotion to Shna Ndou and prayed to Shna Ndou and gained grace, and then our brothers made an altar and put the image of Shna Ndou. People came to pray and gained miracles. For them, the devotion to Shna Ndou begins in this place. Many people say that Shna Ndou came here, but in reality Shna Ndou never physically came here, but his devotion came, and what makes this place strong are precisely the miracles he has done in this place.
-What time does this Church date from?
Jaku: In the 13th century, our brothers found the Church built. Of course, not well built.
-But they were her footprints.
Jaku: Yes, until 1967, then it was completely destroyed. The ruins were here.
-And they still came?
Jaku: Yes, full of people.
-Were they afraid?
Jaku: I've seen many times that they were afraid, but people are very interesting, there was nothing that stopped them from believing in GOD.
