As two of the four State Matura exams have been held, the debate over how students' knowledge is measured has returned. The publication of theses during the exam period has sparked quite a few reactions regarding the fictitiousness of grades and meritocracy.
For experts, the current State Matura system needs reform, as the way it is organized no longer serves the purpose for which it was established.
In addition to criticism of the current inefficient model, there is no shortage of concrete proposals to improve it. Shezai Rrokaj told "A2 CNN" that it should be simplified.
"Two final high school exams (Mathematics and Language-Literature). National assessment checks for the relevant subjects should be conducted over the course of 3 years," he said.
In 2022, the then Minister of Education, Evis Kushi, announced that admission to Medicine would be through a competitive examination, where candidates would undergo an automated exam. So far, only the Faculty of Medicine has this criterion.
And while the debates about the Matura continue and experts propose solutions, the Matura system continues to remain the same and the change required, awaiting a decision.
