As cities dress up in lights and calendars count down the last days of the year, Albanian streets face a less festive reality.
Traffic increases, the rush increases, and caution is often left behind. The end of the year, in addition to joy, also brings a heavy toll of accidents, which are repeated every year almost like a bitter ritual.
"When the holidays approach, the behavior of drivers changes significantly. There is more movement, more emotions, but also less patience. Drivers start with the idea that they have to arrive quickly, forgetting that the road does not forgive mistakes ," says road safety expert Islam Qibini.
High speed remains the leading cause of accidents during this period, followed by dangerous overtaking and disregard for traffic signals. In many cases, a second of carelessness is enough to turn a family trip into a tragedy.
"We talk about speed, but essentially we are talking about a lack of responsibility. When you exceed the norms, you are not only endangering your own life, but also that of those who are not at fault, another family, a pedestrian, a child ," Qibini emphasizes.
Authorities have warned of increased checks and patrols on major roads, but experts emphasize that no measure is sufficient without citizen awareness. Road safety, especially at the end of the year, starts with the small choices made before starting the car.
"Holidays should not be measured by the speed of arrival, but by the safety of return. If we all had this principle, the end of the year would no longer be marked by sirens, but by families gathered around the table ," the expert says.
In a period that symbolizes closure and new beginnings, the message remains clear: the path requires patience, responsibility and respect for life. / A2Cnn
