"Report TV" journalist Piro Nase has been threatened by the family of Dhurim Çenko, the head of Crime in Përmet, after reporting that he was aware of the abuse of a 16-year-old girl by her police stepfather and his colleague.
After the news was published, the journalist received threatening phone calls, while the Albanian Journalists Association also reacted to this event.
The Journalists' Association urgently requests that the police structures and the Gjirokastra Prosecutor's Office immediately launch investigations and hold the perpetrators of the threats accountable.
"The Journalists' Association of Albania is shocked by the threats against our Report TV colleague Piro Nase.
AGSH has been made aware of a life threat against journalist Piro Nase from the family of the suspended Crime Chief in Përmet following reports that he was aware of sexual abuse of minors.
Immediately after the news reported by Nase, he received threatening phone calls from the officer's family, which the AGSH was made aware of and was able to see and hear evidence of the threat.
We urgently request that the police structures and the Gjirokastra Prosecutor's Office immediately launch investigations and hold the perpetrators of the threats accountable.
"We stand by our colleague Nase and encourage him to continue serving citizens with fairness and courage," the response states.
