Italy repatriates the first migrant who was accommodated about a week ago in the Gjandri camp, which now functions as a CPR, where those who have lost their right to asylum or residence in the neighboring country are housed.
The age and nationality of this immigrant are still unknown, but Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi, in a post on social media, announced the start of the repatriation process.
"The first repatriation from Albania of a foreign citizen at the Gjader Repatriation Center," the Minister of Interior writes in X, assuring that "repatriation operations of irregular immigrants will continue in the coming days, as foreseen by the government's strategy for more effective action to combat illegal immigration."
More than 600 migrants have landed in less than 24 hours on the island of Lampedusa. After the 269 migrants who arrived on Friday, on Saturday 297 migrants disembarked aboard five boats, divided into groups of 27 to 94: Bangladeshis, Egyptians, Syrians, Sudanese and Somalis.
