The Gërdec cartridge business scandal was brought back into the spotlight by Efraim Diverol's partner, David Packouz. In a documentary for the American media, the former vice president of the American company "AEY", spoke about the contract he and his partner concluded with the Albanian government for the trade of ammunition in Gërdec, as well as the role of Shkëlzen Berisha and his presence in the meeting where negotiated cartridge prices.
Journalist Adriatik Doçi has commented on this testimony of Packouz, but also brought to attention other details from the massacre of Gërdec, that according to him, SPAK has enough facts in its hands to bring charges against Sali Berisha and his son, Shkëlzen. Journalist Doçi says that Shkëlzen Berisha was the de facto owner of the deadly business in Gërdec, which took the lives of 26 people from the explosion.
Doçi says that Gërdeci was a Berisha family business and it was Shkëlzen Berisha who lobbied in 2007 to set up this business.
The journalist lists Shkëlzen Berisha's phone calls and meetings with the Minister of Defense at that time, Fatmir Mediu, and even their phone call after the Gërdec explosion on March 15, 2008. Doçi also dwells on the suspicious death of Kosta Trebicka, with whom the contract for the packaging of ammunition was broken.
"It is a process that is in the trial phase, where the defendant is Mediu. It is expected that there will be a decision from the Court of First Instance on the indictment or not of Mediu. This decision does not take him to prison, an Appeal decision is needed to decide if Mediu will end up as Meta behind bars or if he will continue to take photos with different characters he catches on the street in the USA to exert some kind of pressure on SPAK and GJKKO . Meanwhile, there is a faction from SPAK to identify other persons unpunished by justice. After a long fight by the whistleblowers and which went through the courts, SPAK is investigating the role of Shkëlzen and Berisha in Gërdec. There is a group of facts, testimonies, concrete connections that confirm that Gërdeci, as a deadly business with 26 victims, was a business of the Berisha family. It was a genuine business with de facto owner Shkëlzen Berisha. In the end, Berisha comes into play and approves Mediu's version, that the deal with Shkëlzen was decided.
At the moment of the explosion, Mediu calls Shkëlzen. Why should he call? He was an ambulance, he was the director of the military hospital. At the moment of the explosion, he can say that I called him to play soccer, but if the public believes that in this situation, he would have called because one of the family members had a stomach ache. This is an offensive alibi for the public and SPAK.
