Ivanka Trump, the daughter of US President Donald Trump, has revealed that she swam to a 1,400-hectare Mediterranean island, off the grid of modern infrastructure, to explore her next project. The island, which remained largely untouched and isolated for decades, is now at the centre of one of the most ambitious luxury tourism developments in the Mediterranean.
Along with her husband, Jared Kushner, Ivanka is backing a giant resort project on Albania's rugged coast, which could transform one of the last undeveloped coastal regions in Europe.
The project is focused on the island of Sazan, a former military outpost located between the Adriatic and Ionian Seas.
Ivanka had previously said she was amazed by the island's natural beauty after exploring the area. The island remained largely inaccessible for decades due to its military history and still contains traces of old bunkers and defensive infrastructure.
"I'm working on an incredible project with my husband in the Mediterranean. It's gigantic... a 1,400-hectare island in the middle of the Mediterranean. We stopped to swim and that's how we discovered it. We swam to the island, climbed to the top and were just amazed ," Ivanka Trump is heard saying in a video that has already gone viral.

What exactly will they build?
The development plan envisages the transformation of the island into a high-end luxury destination. According to the approvals of the Albanian Government and the project details published so far. The proposal includes:
Luxury hotels and private villas;
Marine and coastal infrastructure;
Exclusive space for hospitality and recreational activities;
Tourism infrastructure with a focus on environmental sustainability;
Large-scale works for landscape restoration and territory cleaning.
The investment value is estimated at around 1.4 billion euros (approximately $1.5 billion), making it one of the largest tourism projects ever proposed in Albania. Authorities expect the development to create around 1,000 jobs during the construction and operation phases.
Why is Sazan Island different?
Unlike many Mediterranean destinations that have experienced intensive development over the years, the island of Sazan has remained almost untouched.
The island stretches across hundreds of hectares and is known for its dramatic cliffs, hidden coves, military tunnels and rich biodiversity. Due to decades of access restrictions, much of its coastline has remained in a natural state.
Supporters see it as an opportunity for tourism
Albanian officials have promoted the project as an opportunity to attract high-income international tourists and accelerate the development of the country's tourism sector.
The Albanian government has granted strategic investor status to a company linked to Kushner's development plans, enabling the project to move forward in the environmental assessment and planning phases.
The Albanian Riviera has become increasingly popular in recent years thanks to its crystal-clear turquoise waters, lower costs compared to many Western European destinations, and relatively undeveloped beaches.
Environmental concerns continue to grow
Environmental groups and conservation organizations have raised concerns about the impact that large-scale construction could have on the island's ecosystems and nearby coastal protected areas. Some organizations have called for more detailed scrutiny of the plans, arguing that the region contains valuable habitats and marine species that could be affected by the development.
This debate has transformed the project into one of the most watched tourism developments in the Balkans.
