After the Appeals Decision, Marine Le Pen Shows Her Ambition for President...

French far-right leader Marine Le Pen confirmed Tuesday evening that she will run in France's presidential election in 2027. The announcement was made during an interview with French television station TF1, just hours after the Paris Court of Appeal found her guilty of embezzling European Parliament funds, but cleared her path to run for the Élysée Palace.

This was her first public statement since the court's decision, which significantly changed the sentence given in the first instance. Although Le Pen's guilt was confirmed, the court softened the measure that prohibited her from exercising public functions, allowing her to return to the presidential race.

With this decision, Marine Le Pen will have the opportunity to run for the fourth time for the post of president of France, after attempts in 2012, 2017 and 2022. According to the latest polls, she and her National Rally party are considered among the favorites to win the first round of the 2027 presidential elections.

However, the court case is not over. Le Pen has said she will appeal the decision, with the aim of avoiding having to serve a year of house arrest with monitoring via an electronic bracelet, a sentence that accompanies the court's decision.

She emphasized that she wants to conduct the electoral campaign without restrictions, arguing that a presidential candidate should have complete freedom of movement to meet citizens throughout the country.

" I am glad that the court gave the French people the freedom to vote ," Le Pen declared during the interview, adding that " the French people will have the last word ."

The Court of Appeal's decision comes after months of political uncertainty over the future of the French far-right leader. In the previous first-instance ruling, the ban on running for public office risked excluding her from the 2027 presidential election. However, after the sentence was commuted, the legal obstacle preventing her from running has been lifted.

The case relates to allegations of the illegal use of European Parliament funds, intended for parliamentary assistants, who, according to the prosecution and the court, in practice worked for her party's activities in France and not for European institutions.

Despite the legal proceedings, Le Pen remains the most important figure on the French nationalist right. The confirmation of her candidacy is expected to significantly influence the 2027 presidential race, which is considered one of the most important political challenges for France after the end of Emmanuel Macron's mandate.
