The US State Department has published its annual report on terrorism. As every year, in the middle of December, such a report is published and as far as Albania is concerned, it is said that the efforts to fight terrorism have continued, but the dangers remain.
" The threat from terrorism in Albania includes efforts by ISIS sympathizers to radicalize Albanian youth into violence, the use of Albania as a source or transit country for money or materials by terrorists, and the potential for violent radicalization by returnees from Syria ," it said. in the report for 2023, "Pamphlet" reports.
It was further noted that Albania committed to reforms in prison infrastructure and management, including the establishment and support of an analytical unit within the Directorate of Intelligence, which will enhance the management of violent extremist prisoners, such as convicted terrorists.
According to the report, 9 Albanian men accused of terrorism are in custody, while around 25 Albanian women and children are still in Syrian camps. Albania has repatriated nine women and 28 children from Syria, it continues.
The report also mentions several cases of convictions for terrorism.
