The American Senate has rejected the appointment of David Kostelancik as the ambassador of the United States of America to Albania.
The candidacy was proposed by US President Joe Biden on January 24, 2023, but in the decision taken today, the Senate foresees the return of the proposal to the office of the head of the White House.
Sources from the American embassy in Tirana told Report TV that it is a procedural act that provides for the resubmission of the proposal if it has not been approved or rejected by the senate before the holidays.
Since his candidacy was not approved by the Senate, the procedure provides that the US President Biden can bring the same name again, that of the diplomat Kostelancik or another name to get the Senate's approval as the American ambassador in Tirana. The new name, which will also be approved by the senate, will replace Yuri Kim, while the US diplomatic headquarters in Albania is currently run by Chargé d'Affaires David Vvisner, after the end of Kim's mandate in July of this year.
Kostelancik is known as a diplomat with a 30-year career. In Albania, he served even earlier in the period 1992-1994, as the first representative for political and economic issues in the newly opened American embassy in Tirana. Prior to his appointment as ambassador by Biden, he served as Foreign Policy Advisor to the US Chief of Staff, General Mark Milley. Diplomat Kostelancik, originally from the state of Illinois, graduated from Northwestern University in this state. He speaks Russian, Hungarian, Albanian and Turkish.
