Invited to the "TëPashoq" podcast on Pamflet's "Youtube" channel, political scientist and analyst Fitim Zekthi explained why Albania is still without an American ambassador and when we might have one in Tirana.
In his analysis, Zekthi states that the lack of an ambassador had two reasons, the first being that the Biden administration was obstructed by Republicans. While the second reason, that of the Trump administration, comes as a result of the loss of American interest in Albania.
As for when we might have an American ambassador in our country, Zekthi does not appear optimistic, at least not for the next two years.
"The American ambassador to Albania, since Yuri Kim's departure two years ago, has not come, primarily because of the deep political conflict in the US. Until January, he did not come because of this deep political conflict in the US. In the US, the Republican Party waged a powerful war against President Biden. The US Senate was blocked and dozens of candidacies were not approved due to President Biden's political and ideological agenda. They could not accept his agenda, especially the issues of abortion and the LGBT community, and said that they would not allow this. Not only did they stop the appointment of the ambassador to Albania, but also the senior generals were blocked because of this agenda. Now this issue has been resolved; the Senate has the power to approve an ambassador and, if it wants, it can do it tomorrow. But, apparently, it has no interest and does not care right now here. Now we are at this stage and I believe that we will be without an ambassador for a long time. It may continue like this for another year or two. There is a US withdrawal and we need to understand this. Those who claim that the US will come to do "black name" are wrong; it will not do anything, but will only talk in generalities ," said Zekthi.
