In the capacity of the Presidency of the Security Council for the month of September, Albania this Thursday organizes a High-Level Open Debate of the UN Security Council entitled "Encouragement of Public-Private Partnership".
In this debate, Foreign Minister Igli Hasani gave a speech, who spoke at the UN Security Council about the world's need for humanitarian aid.
During his speech, he said that about 300 million people are at risk of going towards a food crisis, and for this he asked that more be done to avoid such a thing.
He also announced the creation of the Private Sector Humanitarian Alliance, as a coordinating body for responding to humanitarian crises that will serve as a unique entry point for the private sector in the humanitarian architecture, including the UN.

Today, in the capacity of the Presidency of the Security Council for the month of September, Albania organizes a High Level Open Debate of the UN Security Council entitled "Promoting Public-Private Partnership". It will be a pleasure and an honor to chair this meeting, the first of the Security Council on this issue. This is for one major reason: the world is facing an unprecedented level of humanitarian needs driven by many factors, including poverty, instability, conflict and climate change.
Despite the continued commitment and generosity of a number of loyal donors, experience has shown that millions of people, in different parts of the world, still remain without adequate support. Reports indicate that around 300 million people are in dire need and many of them wake up not knowing if and when they will have their next meal.
We cannot and must not leave them 'in the mud'. That's why we all need to do more, better and faster.
Therefore, in such a complex and ever-evolving humanitarian situation, cooperation with the private sector has become vital. It is not an option; it's a must!
We believe that the private sector can bring additional resources, but also expertise, technology, research and development, and operational capabilities to achieve a more effective and productive international response.
This Open Debate aims to identify ways/ways to strengthen the role of the private sector and utilize their potential in response operations; to advance public-private partnership solutions to respond to emergency needs and thereby promote international peace and security.
To this end, over the past two years, together with other like-minded countries and partners, we have worked to explore untapped potential and available resources.
It is our pleasure to announce the creation of the Private Sector Humanitarian Alliance, as a coordinating body for responding to humanitarian crises that will serve as a unique entry point for the private sector in the humanitarian architecture, including the UN.
Through the Alliance, we aim to engage corporations and philanthropies, together with key UN agencies and civil society, to record and collect all impressions and comments on key gaps and areas for improvement in crisis response, exploring the mechanisms of potential to formalize the role of corporations and philanthropies in the crisis response ecosystem, improve resource utilization, and enhance response efforts.
It is a first but, we believe, bold step to showcase the expertise of the public sector in dealing with complex crises and to create more comprehensive, flexible and effective solutions to properly respond to growing needs.
