The hearing at the Appeals Court of Kosovo, where the review of former President Ilir Meta's request for release from prison was to be held, has been postponed.
The next hearing will be held on October 28, due to the nationwide lawyers' boycott, which will continue until Friday, October 28. The court also suspended the detention terms for the Freedom Party leader.
Let us recall that the previous hearing was also postponed at the request of his lawyer, Kujtim Cakrani, who claimed that the official court notice did not specify the name of the judge who would review the case.
Meta has been in custody since October of last year, facing charges of passive corruption, money laundering and concealment of assets. SPAK closed the investigation on July 28 and at the end of August sent the file for trial, merging into a single case the investigations into the CEZ-DIA affair, the lobbying of the LSI (now the Freedom Party) in the US and the undeclared assets.
Meanwhile, just a day earlier, the GJKKO dismissed Meta's other request to change the security measure, leaving in effect the "prison arrest." The former president claimed that the prosecution had exceeded the legal 12-month deadline for sending the case to court, but Judge Irena Gjoka considered this claim unfounded in law.
