Sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering his father, Hysen Meta's

The Durrës Court has issued the final decision on the serious incident that shocked public opinion, where Hysen Meta killed his father, Pëllumb Meta.

According to the decision announced this Thursday, October 23, 2025, Hysen Meta was found guilty of "murder due to family relations" and sentenced to life imprisonment. Hysen Meta will serve his sentence in a high-security prison.

Hysen Meta's sister, Hygerta Meta, was sentenced to 8 years in prison, out of the 30 years the prosecution had requested, while his brother, Amarildo Meta, was sentenced to 5 years in prison. The mother of the three children, or the victim's wife, Blerina Meta, was sentenced to 3 years in prison. Only Amarildo Meta was present in the courtroom.

The defense has opposed the decision, saying they will appeal it to a higher court.

Shqiponja Meta, a lawyer defending defendants Hysen and Amarildo Meta, said she expected a milder sentence for Hysen Meta, while adding that the maximum sentence for "Hiding the Corpse" cannot be given to Amarildo Meta, who was sentenced to 5 years in prison.

"We will appeal to the General Court of Appeal in Tirana, especially regarding the life imprisonment of the defendant Hysen Meta. I think that there could have been a milder sentence. Amarildo Meta has been sentenced to the maximum of the provision for concealing the corpse. We will follow the legal channels. The person who committed the crime must be held responsible for what he did. An entire family cannot be held responsible. Life imprisonment has conditions for appeal. In the mind that committed the crime, he was only 24 years old, in conditions of verbal violence from the day he was born until the day he committed the murder. He was shocked at the time he committed the crime. He sent the Court a letter apologizing. The motive was the continuous violence," said the lawyer.

The other lawyer defending Hygerta Meta welcomed the verdict given to her, who was sentenced to a total of 8 years in prison for two criminal offenses.

"The Court's decision was fair regarding the defendant Hygerta Meta," said lawyer Kreshnik Poga.
