A day after the emergency meeting of 260 judges, the commander of the Republican Guard, Simon Zereci, arrived at the GJKKO premises.
Zereci is holding a meeting with the President of the Court, Erion Bani, on the security situation, and will also conduct an inspection.
A day earlier, Bani, at a general meeting of judges, requested inspections of all court premises. He stated that all issues should be identified, including asking judges and court staff about any concerns or problems they may encounter while performing their duties.
Who is responsible for maintaining the Courts?
After the murder of Judge Kalja in the courtroom, the debate that dominated public opinion and brought accusations even among institutions was the question of who is responsible for guaranteeing security in the courts. The Supreme Court published the letters with the State Police where, based on a 2010 VKM, it had requested measures to guarantee courtrooms with police. According to the Supreme Court, the State Police currently provides its service with only one employee at the main entrance where the parties and the public move.
However, a 2020 DCM charges the High Judicial Council and the High Prosecutorial Council with responsibility for drafting policies for order and security, respectively, in the country's courts and prosecutors' offices. The most important element in this DCM is the "security officer" who is the main person responsible for guaranteeing order and security.
