The administration of US President Donald Trump today temporarily suspended the processing of visas for immigrants from 75 countries, including Albania. The suspension, which will take effect on January 21, does not affect tourist visas.
A US State Department spokesperson spoke to Reuters, clarifying the restrictions.
" The State Department will use its longstanding authority to declare inadmissible any potential immigrant who would become a burden on the American state and take advantage of the generosity of the American people ," said Tommy Pigott, Acting State Department Spokesperson.
" Visa processing for immigrants from these 75 countries will be suspended while the State Department reviews procedures to prevent the entry of foreign nationals who intend to receive welfare and public benefits in the United States ," he added.
Trump has pursued an aggressive anti-immigration course since returning to the White House in January. His administration has prioritized immigration enforcement, deployed federal agents to major U.S. cities and sparked violent clashes with both migrants and American citizens.
