Today marks the 22nd anniversary of the Beatification of Mother Teresa, the Albanian humanitarian and Nobel Peace Prize winner. Mother Teresa was declared “Blessed” by Pope John Paul II on October 19, 2003.
The sacred ceremony of beatification of Mother Teresa was held in St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican in May 2011. Mother Teresa was a symbol of help and respect for the "poorest of the poor", to whom she dedicated her entire life.
On September 4, 2016, Mother Teresa was declared Saint Teresa of Calcutta, in a grand religious ceremony in St. Peter's Square in the Holy See. We recall that the ceremony was presided over by Pope Francis, who also made the proclamation of the canonization in front of thousands of pilgrims who filled the central square.
Gonxhe Bojaxhi was born in Skopje on August 26, 1910 and died at the age of 87, on September 5, 1997, in Calcutta, India. She was a renowned Albanian humanist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate.
