The disqualification of 5 contenders to participate in the race for the leadership of the Democratic Party, leaving only Sali Berisha as the candidate, has turned the internal elections into a referendum.
Invited to Repolitix, lawyer Kreshnik Spahiu ironized the situation within the DP, and emphasized the importance of the court's suspension of the presidential elections before the vote on May 23.
"What delegitimizes the process is the illegal disqualification of all candidates. In the DP, no one meets the conditions, except Berisha. To be a deputy, according to the Constitution, you must be 18 years old, to be a candidate for the DP you must be over 80 years old. To be President of the Republic, it is enough to be an Albanian citizen and to have lived in Albania for the last 10 years and to be 40 years old, while to be the leader of the DP there are 10 other criteria that are like Berisha's suit, the competition is damaged there," said Spahiu.
