The Constitutional Court has rejected the request of former Deputy Minister of Health, Klodian Rrjepaj, to lift the security measure of "prison arrest", leaving the decision against him in force.
The decision was made on March 31, ending Rrjepaj's attempt to challenge isolation, as did former minister Ilir Beqaj, who also appealed to this court.
Rrjepaj was initially sentenced to 6 years in prison by the Court of First Instance for the sterilization case, but due to the summary trial, his sentence was reduced to 4 years in prison.
He is accused of abuse of office and violation of public procurement procedures, in relation to the concession for the sterilization of surgical equipment.
The sterilization case is one of SPAK's most sensational investigations, with a total of eight people sentenced to 28 years in prison. Meanwhile, former minister Ilir Beqaj is facing a separate trial.
According to investigations, the concession contract is suspected of causing inflated costs and economic damage to the state budget, favoring private entities.
