The focus of the American official's visit is to convey the message that the US supports Albania's work in the fight against corruption, organized crime and building strong institutions.
The American Embassy has revealed the focus of the talks to US Assistant Secretary Todd Robinson during the meeting with the head of SPAK, Altin Dumanin, prosecutors and other judges.
The embassy writes that the senior American official has expressed support for justice and focused on ending impunity.
" At a reception with Albanian judges, prosecutors, investigators and leaders from Albanian justice agencies, Assistant Secretary Todd Robinson thanked our Albanian partners for their courage and commitment to the rule of law, transparency and ending impunity. He underlined the importance of an independent justice for Albania as it fights crime and corruption ", writes the embassy as it clarified Robinson's speech.
"Today, Albanians are taking bold steps to initiate difficult reforms. And I want all of you to know that my colleagues and I in Washington recognize your hard work. But like all the hard work of strengthening democracy and increasing accountability, it is a long and difficult road. And I would encourage you, first, to know that you are making a difference and, second, not to give up, to continue... We will count on you as partners in the fight against international crime and corruption in the Western Balkans... but most most importantly, ordinary Albanian citizens believe in you... and I can promise you that as you continue your work, the United States government will be your partner in this and will walk alongside you in supporting you and Albania." Robinson is expected to hold a meeting with Prime Minister Edi Rama. He will then visit Kosovo on March 20-22, where he will meet with President Vjosa Osmani.
