Kimi Antonelli recorded an impressive victory in the Sprint race of the British Grand Prix, leaving Lewis Hamilton behind after a decisive overtake on lap nine on the “Hangar Straight”. The Italian driver held the lead until the end of the 17-lap race, celebrating his first success in a Sprint race.
Hamilton, who started the race from pole position, was forced to settle for second place. Antonelli, in addition to the triumph, also recorded the fastest lap of the race. His overtaking was favored by the efficient use of the energy recovery system (ERS) on a section of the track where such maneuvers are traditionally considered difficult.
Lando Norris came in third, defending his podium position against attacks from George Russell, who finished fourth. Charles Leclerc, after a poor start, finished in fifth, ahead of Max Verstappen and Oscar Piast.
The final valid point for the Sprint standings was won by Liam Lauson with Racing Bulls. Isak Hadjar and debutant Arvid Lindblad completed the top ten, while Alpine drivers Pier Gasly and Franco Colapinto remained outside the points zone, finishing in 11th and 12th place respectively.
Thanks to this success, Antonelli consolidates his position at the top of the World Championship standings. The Italian driver leads with 179 points, followed by George Russell with 136 points and Lewis Hamilton with 132 points.
