Citizens of Durrës rise up in protest after floods...
Residents of the city of Durres protested this evening after major floods hit the city. Citizens expressed concern about the damage, stressing that the situation is a result of corruption and poor management of the city.
Dozens of people gathered in front of the Durrës Municipality, where they attempted to enter, clashing with police. The crowd chanted the name of Mayor Emiriana Sako, demanding accountability for the situation.
" In these 30 years, there has never been a flood of this magnitude in the city of Durrës. The beach, Shkozeti, Spitalla, neighborhood 1 were flooded, but what about Veliera, who was to blame for Veliera being flooded? " said a citizen.
An outraged citizen criticized the government and Prime Minister Edi Rama: "If you are tall, do you see the people who are against you? I am drinking 33 thousand euros of wine, so don't drink it. Do you see these people here... May God take them away and may God condemn them. Let the rights of these people be taken away ."
Clashes between citizens and police were recorded outside the municipality, while citizens held banners with messages such as: " When corruption gets out of bed and enters citizens' homes ", demanding immediate reaction from institutions.
According to authorities, the floods have caused major damage mainly in the Kënetës, Katund i Ri and Sukth areas, as a result of the Erzen River overflowing its banks, flooding dozens of hectares of land and houses. The first victim from the floods has also been registered in the city.
