The former head of the State Police, Krenar Ahmeti, raised strong accusations about the lack of security in the airport area, where the latest assassination attempt that has shaken the country took place.
During the interview in "Terminal" with journalist Aurora Sulçe on A2 CNN, Ahmeti stated that the airport area, an area of high strategic importance, was uncovered by security services, despite institutional claims for strict monitoring measures.
According to him, the territory around the airport constitutes one of the most planned perimeters for security services in the country, where several structures must be present simultaneously: law enforcement agencies with territorial jurisdiction, border police, anti-smuggling services, as well as Albanian and foreign intelligence services. However, Ahmeti emphasizes that in the footage it is clear that the area has been "emptied".
" Imagine that entire airport, which is advertised as having millions of tourists passing through. Even though it is located in one of the areas theoretically most covered with services, at the moment of the attack it turns out that there was no force there to react ," he said.
Ahmeti also rejected the official version that everything happened within “110 seconds,” arguing that the duration of the operation was much longer. Ahmeti emphasized that, from the moment the car stopped, to the assassination attempt, to the burning of the perpetrators’ vehicle, about an hour and a half passed, an interval during which the police had real time to intervene.
" It is impossible that the event lasted only 110 seconds. Why is the time the car waited, the time of the action and the moment until the vehicle was burned not counted? In total, it is about an hour and a half. This is flagrante delicto, and the police had the opportunity to react at every stage ," he added, according to A2 CNN.
He assessed that the event constitutes a serious violation of national security, since the incident occurred in a facility of particular importance, where any violation directly reflects on the credibility of the institutions that are supposed to guarantee it. " Security is something very delicate. What has happened is an extremely serious event. Elements of national security have been violated. This area should have been the focus of the government, but it only deals with propaganda ," he said.
