
The Special Court has decided to continue the security measures "prison arrest" for Laert Haxhiu, sentenced to life imprisonment in the first degree for the "Lushnje Massacre", an event recorded in September 2017 and for other events in it which included the 32-year-old, according to the testimony of the repentant justice Artan Tafani.
The hearings at the GJKKO were held separately, while Haxhiu himself and his defense lawyer have maintained a negative stance regarding the Lushnje event and Tafani's testimony, where they claim that they have no knowledge of him.
Laert Haxhiu was extradited from Greece on July 3, 2024.
The 32-year-old Laert Haxhiu was sentenced to life imprisonment for a series of criminal offenses such as: "Structured criminal group", "Commitment of criminal offenses by a criminal organization or a structured criminal group", "Murder in other qualifying circumstances" , "Illegal Possession and Production of Arms, Explosive Weapons and Ammunition" and "Disturbance of Public Peace".
The Special Court sentenced Laert Haxhiu to life imprisonment in April 2024. He was found guilty for the incident that took place in Lushnja in October 2017, where Jurgen Hoxha and Zamir Latifi were killed and two others were injured.
In the same way, the name of Laert Haxhiu emerged from the testimony of Artan Tafani, who showed that Haxhiu's group organized several murders and some serious criminal events that took place in Tirana, Durrës, Elbasan and Korçë.
