The mayor of Tropoja, Rexh Byberi, was called to SPAK today, where he stayed for more than an hour. After leaving the prosecutor's office, he said that he was asked about several things.
When asked by journalists if he was asked about McGonigal, whom he has declared an honorary citizen of Tropoja, Byberi answered:
"I have welcomed him as a friend, I love him as a friend and I am proud that Tropoja welcomes friends and respects them".
The former senior American official was honored as an "Honorary Citizen" on September 23, 2021 by the Municipality of Tropoja and the socialist mayor Rexh Byberi.
The former Prime Minister Sali Berisha also reacted to this, who at that time said that this was an order from Rama, to hit the head of the Democratic Party directly.
"Rama has ordered that he be declared an honorary citizen in Tropoja to reward the commitment he has made against me," said Berisha.
We recall that in February of this year, the Washington Federal Court sentenced former FBI official Charles McGonigal to 28 months in prison, "for serious breach of public trust", related to the 225,000 dollars he received from the Albanian-American Agron Nezaj and the non-declaration of contacts with Albanian officials, including Prime Minister Edi Rama.
