Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni attended the official dinner of the leaders of NATO member countries, organized in Ankara as part of the Alliance summit.
According to Italian media, Meloni sat at the same table with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and US President Donald Trump. Also at the same table were German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
After dinner, returning to the hotel, Meloni was asked by reporters about his relationship with Donald Trump, following the tense statements of recent days.
" Heartfelt relations ," the Italian prime minister replied briefly.
When asked if he had had a clarification with the American president after the recent exchange of accusations, Meloni sufficed to say: "I have already answered you," without providing further details.
Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani also focused on relations between Rome and Washington, emphasizing that they remain strong.
"Beyond jokes and declarations, Italy's relations with the United States are solid," Tajani declared after the NATO Foreign Ministers' dinner.
He added that relations with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio have been "always excellent", as have those with the US ambassador in Rome.
" There has never been a clash. We are us, they are them, but we are part of the same political alliance, which is fundamental. Relations are solid and cordial. We do not want controversy; we need to talk to the Americans. We have always remained the same ," Tajani said.
