The 38th day of protests called for a massive rally, while the use of 4 million euros from the emergency fund for the American artist's concert was criticized.
Protesters have announced that a national protest will be organized on July 11, the day when American rapper Kanye West's concert will take place in Tirana.
The call was made during the 38th day of the protest in front of the Prime Minister's Office, where one of the activists invited citizens from all over Albania to join the rally.
" Since we are on the topic of the Kanye West concert, on the 11th we call for a national protest again. At 7:00 PM, with the same flag and the same goal. This protest belongs to the people. Every decision that is made is made in front of the people and not behind closed doors ," she declared.
During the rally, protesters also opposed the government's decision to finance the organization of the concert with public funds, referring to the amount of 4 million euros allocated for this purpose.
A protester stated that the emergency fund is being used for a concert, while, according to her, in other cases such as earthquakes or floods, citizens have not received the same support.
" Today Edi Rama has unblocked the emergency fund to pay for Kanye West's concert tickets. Every Albanian will pay 2 euros out of pocket for this concert, even if they will not attend ," she said.
According to the protester, public funds should have been directed towards pensioners, hospital patients, and the needy, accusing the government of misprioritizing the use of taxpayers' money.
The national protest announced for July 11 is expected to take place at the same time and in the same place where citizens have been gathering for 38 days to demand the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama and a change in the political class.
