Details emerge from the ceremony in honor of Archbishop Anastasios Janullatos, who passed away today.
The Holy Synod of the Greek Orthodox Church announced that the body of Archbishop Anastasios will lie in state for public veneration in the Cathedral of Athens until the morning of Monday, January 27. On Sunday, a Divine Liturgy will be held in his honor in this cathedral.
The Archbishop's body is expected to be transported by land to Albania on Tuesday, where a memorial service will take place at the "Resurrection of Christ" Cathedral in Tirana.
Janullatos suffered gastric hemorrhage, and after several days of treatment at a private hospital in Tirana, his health condition deteriorated, forcing him to be transported to Athens on January 3 by an Air Force plane.
Despite medical efforts and the intensive care he received, his condition worsened daily, due to the insufficient functioning of several organs.
