Analyst Mentor Nazarko said that Archbishop Anastas Janullatos would have liked and left his final will to be buried in Albania.
"Janullatos would have liked, and it is part of his last will, to be buried in Albania. For this reason, he wanted to have Albanian citizenship. He would have wanted this community that he led to be remembered and not clash with the sensitivities of Albanians, being Albanians and not Greeks ," he said.
Nazarko also said that the battle for his legacy at the head of the Orthodox Church is difficult. According to him, there are several names that could lead the church, such as the bishop of Korça or Elbasan.
The analyst also said that control of finances will be one of the most difficult points, as it continues to be in the hands of a Greek priest.
"The problems that may arise for his legacy at the head of the church are related to the natural ambitions of those who are bishops to take his place. Several names are circulating, be it the bishop of Korça, the bishop of Elbasan, the young Anastasi, who was very close to the archbishop recently. But I think that what is important and that is a powerful instrument of control not only in churches, but everywhere is the control of finances. In my judgment, the control of finances continues to be in the hands of a Greek priest and so in such a context, the battle will be difficult. I myself would have preferred figures with a prominent religious, theological profile," Nazarko told "Abc News".
