In Tirana, the case of Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj goes to trial a year after his arrest.

The GJKKO decided that the case against Veliaj, his wife Ajola Xoxa and other persons involved should proceed to trial. The lawyers in the case have denounced serious violations of the process during the preliminary hearings and have boycotted the decision.

On the other hand, the GJKKO appeal upheld the 1-year prison sentence for the mayor of Rrogozhina, Edison Memolla, after an audio recording in which he allegedly influenced an OSHEE employee to secure votes in the 2022 local elections.

In addition to prison, Memolla cannot hold public office for the next 5 years.

In The Hague, the Prosecution has filed charges against former KLA leaders.
