According to a survey conducted by the organization for children's rights, "Save the Children Kosovo", children in Kosovo have stated that bullying occurs mainly on social networks and in schools.

78 percent of children said that bullying is very or moderately present in their school. The same percentage applies to TikTok, followed by the other social network Snapchat with 57 percent.

The respondents also said that bullying also happens on Instagram (45 percent) and Facebook (28 percent) as spaces where bullying happens often or always.

The survey was conducted in the period May-June 2024 and 1,071 children in 16 municipalities of Kosovo participated in it.

The children surveyed were between the ages of 11 and 17, that is, students from the seventh to the 11th grade.

According to the survey, 29 percent of children reported that they rarely or never feel safe when using public transportation at night.

"This concern is more pronounced among girls, where 35 percent express this feeling compared to 19 percent of boys," said Save the Children.

This organization has requested that schools have stronger mechanisms to deal immediately with bullying and discrimination, offering "comprehensive training for teachers, parents and students to deal with these issues together".

It also called for better online security and protection mechanisms for platforms like TikTok and Snapchat, "engaging technology companies, parents and educators in this effort."

Save the Children urged institutions to act urgently to improve safety in public transport, especially at night, through better security measures, lighting and awareness campaigns.

Finally, several cases of injuries to students inspired by some videos on TikTok have been reported in Kosovo. Experts in the field said that institutions should find effective mechanisms to prevent the influence of harmful content from social networks, recommending either increased control or banning access to TikTok./REL
