We have often learned that banana containers are used to traffic cocaine from Latin American countries to Albania or other European countries. We have also learned that the trafficked cocaine has passed for "wide use", thanks to the cooperation of the traffickers with employees of police and border customs points.
But to smuggle bananas in order to pass the fruit into free circulation is a bit hard to believe.
At least, this was hinted at by the State Police, in an announcement about the arrest of 3 employees of the Port of Durrës and one of the Border Police, after the temporary "disappearance" of a container of bananas, commissioned by the company "Zico Company". known under the trade name "Bana-King".
In a communication with the media, the Durrës Police informed on December 14, 2023 that "As part of the 'Synchronization' operation, Alketa Kollçaku, 52 years old, Denis Musaj, 41 years old, Egnis Gojani, 35 years old, and the assistant control specialist in the Police were arrested Border guard of the port of Durrës, Adelino Vila, 27 years old. They are accused of the criminal offenses of "Abuse of duty" and "Computer falsification", committed in collaboration.
According to the Police, "from the investigative actions, it is suspected that these 4 citizens, abusing their duties, in cooperation with each other, have recorded false data in the computer systems, with the aim of allowing the passage of vehicles and containers transporting goods without customs control smuggled".
So, until now, the Police and the Prosecutor's Office of Durrës have raised suspicions about committing the criminal offenses of "Smuggling" and "Abuse of duty".
Of course, neither the law-enforcement institutions nor the public opinion is convinced that the case is simply a case of banana smuggling.
The strongest suspicions are that everything is a typical case of drug trafficking. And, there are many elements that strengthen this suspicion.
At the beginning of December 2023, a shipment of bananas, ordered by the company "Zico Company" (Bana-King), arrived from Ecuador.
The containers have been standing in the terminal square of the Port of Durrës, managed by the "Mariner Adriatic" company.
On December 8, a person, later identified by the Police only with the initials DH, 56 years old, presented himself to the employees of the "Mariner Adriatic" company as a driver of the "Bana-King" company.
He had some papers in his hand, based on which he claimed that the customs clearance procedures had been completed and he had come to retrieve a container of bananas.
The employees of the private company have allowed the movement of the container. Person DH, after leaving for about 2-3 hours, returned to the Port and returned the container.

Pas kësaj situate, punonjësit e “Zico Company” kanë bërë kallëzim penal.
Episodi u mbajt i fshehtë për disa ditë. Kjo mungesë transparence mund të ketë qenë një taktikë e Policisë për të kryer hetimet “në heshtje” ose edhe një zgjidhje për të shmangur “njollosjen” për dështimin e radhës të institucioneve ligjzbatuese.
Më e besueshme duket ky varianti i dytë, pasi personi apo personat që kanë organizuar “zhdukjen” disa orëshe të kontenierit i kanë marrë masat për të shmangur përballjen me policinë.
Më së paku, personazhi D.H, i cili ka tërhequr kontenierin, nuk është arritur të gjendet nga policia dhe është shpallur në kërkim.
Gjithësesi, ngjarja u mësua nga një burim alternativ. Në 13 dhjetor, ish-kryeministri Sali Berisha, publikoi një mesazh që, sipas dërguesit, identifikohej si punonjës i Doganës së Portit Durrës.
Berisha, duke bërë publik mesazhin, shkruante ndër të tjera: “Më 13 dhjetor u shoqëruan mbi 20 persona të operatorit portual Mariner Adriatic dhe disa policë kufitarë për t’u marrë në pyetje lidhur me kontenierin me banane të firmës “Bana King”, i cili, në datën 8 dhjetor ka dalë pa kryer asnjë procedurë doganore, skaner kontroll jashtë portit të Durrësit, duke u zbrazur në një parking në afërsi të portit në Shkozet. Pas 3 orë e 30 minutash është rikthyer në Portin e Durrësit, është futur përsëri në terminal pa asnjë kontroll. Kornologjia e kësaj ngjarje është fshehur me idenë e kontrabandës së bananeve (versioni më i turpshëm) i historisë me urdhër direkt të drejtorit të Policisë Durrës, Skënder Hita, i besuar i Taulant Ballës”.
Vetëm pas këtij publikimi, e konkretisht në 14 Dhjetor 2023, Policia e Durrësit lëshoi një komunikatë zyrtare, ku njoftonte se ishin ndaluar 4 persona dhe ishte shpallur në kërkim shtetasi D.H., i cili kishte tërhequr kontenierin për disa orë.

However, these suspicions remain so, as long as no traces have been found or accusations have been made of trafficking, but only of smuggling.
The "disappearance" of the "Bana-King" container is the next episode that happened to the "Zico Company" in the last two years.
Until now, at least two previous cases have been registered, where cocaine narcotics were found in the containers arrived from Latin America on behalf of "Bana King".
On December 30, 2021, Police agents managed to discover 119 kilograms of cocaine in a container that was transported from the port of Durrës to the warehouses of "Zico Company" in Vaqarr, Tirana.
On November 3, 2022, during a control at the second line of the Port of Durrës, the police discovered about 35 kilograms of cocaine in a container of bananas, arrived in Albania from Ecuador, as an order of "Bana King".
For the previous episodes, there were also several arrests, involving company employees, as well as employees of the Durrës Customs. However, as "Boldnews.al" reported earlier, all the arrested persons were released at different times, leaving the cases of cocaine trafficking without a perpetrator./ boldnews
