The scandals of the Elbasan Prosecutor's Office do not stop...
The Elbasan Prosecution Office has taken another scandalous action regarding the case of lawyer Ulian Barjami, seizing his personal phone without any concrete evidence or connection to any criminal offense.
The denunciation comes from lawyer Arben Llangozi, who has described the event as an open attack on the legal profession and justice in Albania.
In a public statement on social media, Llangozi writes: " The abusive actions of the Elbasan Prosecutor's Office have no end. They also seize the phone of lawyer Uljan Barjami without reason. In Elbasan, justice has turned into a shameful farce. After detaining lawyer Barjami without any legal basis, they are now trying to invent evidence where it does not exist. And where are they looking for it? On the lawyer's phone! "

According to him, Judicial Police officer Zmeralda Mehilli seized Barjam's phone with the blessing of the prosecution, without any proven connection to any criminal offense.
" They have no evidence, no argument, but they seized it anyway, hoping that maybe they'll discover some words or messages that they can turn into 'evidence'. This is not justice, this is a witch hunt. When a prosecutor lacks evidence, he starts looking for the 'deed' on the phone ," Llangozi emphasizes.
He adds that seizing the phone is an attack on professional confidentiality and a threat to any lawyer who dares to defend the rights of clients.

In Elbasan, justice has turned into a shameful farce. After detaining lawyer Uljan Barjami without any legal basis, now the prosecution and police of this city are trying to invent evidence where none exists. And where are they looking for it? On the lawyer's phone!
Lawyer Uljan Barjami's phone was absurdly seized by Judicial Police officer Zmeralda Mehilli, under the eyes and blessing of the Elbasan prosecutor's office. An illegal act, motivated by malice, hatred and fear of the truth. They have no evidence, no argument, no connection of the phone to any "criminal offense" but they seized it anyway, in the hope that maybe they will find something, maybe they will discover some words, some message, that they can turn into "evidence" to justify their abuse.
This is not justice, this is a witch hunt. When a prosecutor lacks evidence, he starts looking for the “crime” on the phone. When a police officer lacks professionalism, he starts inventing evidence instead of finding it. And when a police officer like Zmeralda Mehilli seizes a lawyer's phone, she is not enforcing the law, she is defiling the law.
Essentially, this is an act of revenge against a lawyer who dared to speak out, defend and expose the rigging of the system. The seizure of the phone has nothing to do with any investigation, but was seized as evidence in case they find a criminal offense.
They want to dig into his communications with clients, see the conversations, capture any fragments that they can use against him in flagrant violation of professional confidentiality, one of the fundamental pillars of justice in any democratic country.
What does the prosecution want to find on a lawyer's phone? An imagined "criminal offense"? Or a reason to punish him for not bowing down and becoming their notary? This behavior is an institutional disgrace and an open threat to every lawyer in Albania. Because today it is Uljan Barjam's phone, tomorrow it could be the phone of any other lawyer who refuses to remain silent in the face of injustice.
The seizure of a lawyer's phone is a clear violation of the Constitution, the Code of Criminal Procedure, and every principle of the rule of law. It is a deliberate, planned act with a pure vengeful motive.
In the end, the only "criminal offense" that can be found in this case is the one committed by the officers and prosecutors themselves, namely, abuse of office.
The seizure of lawyer Uljan Barjami's phone is in no way related to any threat from the phone as an object, but is an abusive and illegal act, carried out solely to violate professional confidentiality and exercise control over the lawyer's communications with clients.
