Behgjet Pacolli has reacted again to the situation at Vlora Airport, where according to him, over 50 Chinese engineers are staying isolated inside the camp set up by the MABCO company to house technical staff.
He states that entry to the area continues to be controlled by private guards in the presence of the State Police, while Albanian workers, engineers and subcontractors are not allowed to enter the site.
According to Pacolli, people inside the airport are also facing movement restrictions. He claims that engineers have been told they can only leave the area if they agree not to return to the camp premises.
In his reaction, Pacolli emphasizes that the technical staff came to Albania to work on a strategic project and not to face isolation measures.
"These people did not come to Albania to be treated as suspects or prisoners. They came to work on a strategic project," writes Behgjet Pacolli.
Pacolli has also published several photographs showing the dire situation created in the airport area, as representatives of his company were barely able to bring in food and medicine for these isolated engineers today.
He calls the situation a violation of fundamental human rights and international labor standards. According to him, no contractual dispute can justify the physical confinement of technical staff on a project of strategic importance.
"Today they asked for food and medicines. And only with great difficulty did we manage to send them basic aid. All this is happening before the eyes of state institutions. We are talking about serious violations of fundamental human rights, international labor standards and any minimum norm of dignified treatment of people. No contractual conflict can justify the isolation of people and the physical blockade of technical staff at a strategic construction site," he writes.
In conclusion, he called on Albanian institutions to intervene to resolve the situation, warning that the event could negatively affect Albania's image in the eyes of foreign investors.
