An unexpected discovery has been recorded in the Akërnia area, near Vlora, where during drilling for land surveying, the presence of natural gas was detected. The event occurred near the area's hydropower plant, just a few kilometers from the new airport, raising interest and concern about the safety and nature of this phenomenon.

According to sources on the ground, a private company carrying out geological work has encountered the presence of gas in recent days. Following the discovery, the area has been cordoned off with safety tape, while precautionary measures have been taken to avoid any possible danger.

The same sources indicate that the drilling has reached a depth of about 70 meters and that the presence of gas has been evident for about 10 days. However, so far there has been no official reaction from the responsible institutions, neither on the type of gas discovered nor on the steps that will be taken next.

On Wednesday afternoon, specialists from the National Agency for Natural Resources (AKBN) arrived in the area, and are conducting verifications to determine the source and nature of the phenomenon. According to preliminary information, AKBN itself has not granted permission for drilling in this area.

Other sources suggest that, due to the marshy characteristics of the territory, there may have been gas releases in the past as a result of underground interventions during geological studies. However, this remains to be confirmed by experts.

The situation continues to be monitored, while authorities are expected to issue an official statement after the completion of the verifications, to clarify the potential risk and the measures that will be taken for the safety of residents and the surrounding area.
