May 11th elections, Abilekaj: Candidates under investigation by SPAK should

The Central Election Commission asked the prosecution to investigate the past of 16 candidates for MPs who are on the political party lists for the May 11 parliamentary elections.

Invited to the show "The Unexposed", journalists Enton Abilekaj, Andi Tela and Sokol Bregu commented on the names under indictment by SPAK and who should withdraw from the race, to pave the way for justice.

Excerpts from the studio conversation:

Enton Abilekaj : Those convicted of significant crimes cannot run, even though the law does not affect them. Those who have an accusation in SPAK should not run. But when you receive an official accusation, not when you are investigated, but when you have an indictment, running is impossible. It is Mr. Berisha, Mr. Plarent Ndreca. He does not have to be an MP when there is an accusation, he paves the way for justice. Mr. Berisha has a higher responsibility, but a normal MP does not have to be an MP when there is an accusation. He does not exercise his power to close the way for justice.

Andi Tela : It's a standard issue. The law doesn't prevent anyone. But, at the moment we hear accusations against government officials, leaders, news that they have been included in the investigation for accusations by the Special Prosecution, there is a moral thread from the government here. Why should these controversial people run?

Then the other candidates, this could take years. It's a matter that goes to the Attorney General's Office and then waits for an answer, if he is a clean candidate.

Sokol Bregu : In the big parties there are 8-9 candidates who are seeking immunity to protect themselves from suspicions. Most of them are on open lists, except for Berisha. The fight between those in the SP, they will definitely seek immunity in this mandate to protect themselves from the immunity that the Parliament gives them. We tried to remove the immunity from the MP and we did not succeed.
