Bad news for Albanian and regional politicians. The USA will soon expand the "nongrata" list for the "mammoths" of corruption.
In the wake of the national emergency, declared by executive order on June 26, 2001 regarding the Western Balkans, after the constant threats to security, peace, but also the alarming corruption, which has been recently extended, the expansion of the so-called Black List is expected with other names of politicians from the region, including Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia-Herzegovina, North Macedonia and Kosovo, but also Albania.
This is what the INA news agency says, quoting the document, which reads: "the actions of persons who threaten peace and international efforts for stabilization in the Western Balkans" and the current situation in this region "present an unusual and extraordinary threat to national security and the politics of foreign affairs of the United States".
On June 8, 2021, the United States expanded the scope of this emergency on the grounds that the region has been facing, over the past two decades, corruption and actions that hinder the agreements reached after the war.
American ambassadors in the Balkan region have repeatedly warned about expanding the blacklist for all those who threaten and hinder international efforts for regional stabilization.
In November last year, 10 individuals were added to the said list, as a round of economic sanctions was announced in the Balkans, and the sanctioned individuals were from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia.
