Fires in the country, residents recount hours of terror: We are running away

With tears in their eyes and heads held high, the residents of the villages of Gramsh continue to flee their homes. In some villages of the "Skënderbegës" administrative unit, the fire is still threatening their lives, so the authorities have asked them to leave everything and leave.

Around 100 residents of Nartë were evacuated this morning, as the massive fire that engulfed the village continues to burn. They fled, taking their livestock with them.

This resident of this village is leaving with a broken heart, as the home and orchard where he has poured all his life's work is in danger of burning down.

"I have three houses, we also have livestock, we have taken them out," says one of the residents, as he tries with a shovel to help put out the fire.

To extinguish the fires, 3 helicopters intervened from the air. Firefighting forces also continue to deal with the fires scattered everywhere.

But the residents themselves have also been at the forefront of the battle against the flames. These are two residents of the area who are using their vehicle to transport water, helping the firefighters.

"We fill the fire trucks with water so that they are as close to the fires as possible. So far we have made three trips, we are also here in action. The situation seems difficult for the residents, the fire and the wind," two residents, who volunteer to help the firefighting forces in action, tell "Report TV".

In Skenderbeg, it wasn't just the houses that were lost. Others, with tears in their eyes, talk about the loss of olive trees and vineyards.

"Vineyards and olive groves... at the end of it all ," one of the residents, severely affected by the fire, tells "Report TV".

Even where the flames have been extinguished, the damage is extensive, as drone footage shows.

In total, 39 homes have been burned in 6 villages, not counting the damage to olive groves, fruit trees, and livestock. An inventory is being made by ministry teams on these losses.

In Gramsh, the day before, the first victim of the fires that have swept the country was recorded, an 80-year-old man who lost his life from asphyxiation in a fire he started himself, whose flames then grew to large proportions, engulfing several villages.
