The Minister of the Interior, Taulant Balla, has given a statement to the media after the fire that engulfed the shopping center "Metropol" in the 12-story building in Lushnja. Speaking about the situation, Balla said that the danger has not yet passed as there are still small fires in the building.
He added that the problem remains the temperature of the building where work is being done due to the fire that engulfed the third floor.
Balla said that it took the intervention of RENEA to evacuate the residents who remained in the building where the shopping center is located.
"Thanks to the intervention and good coordination of the firefighting forces and State Police structures, the intervention of the RENEA forces was also necessary, they managed to intervene in time in the apartments, for which we were informed that there were no residents, but after the verifications, the RENEA boys -s found people in these apartments, suffocated, they are already out of danger for life. The first is that the danger is not over, there are still some smaller fires in the eastern part of the building. The fire brigades of Tirana, Durrës, Fier, Lushnja are working, they are working in difficult conditions.
A buffer zone has been created to prevent the fire from spreading. I am not the prosecutor of the case, but I want to tell you that the police have established a security cordon, and once it is completed, there will be a full investigation. The intervention from the air was the last security step for which we took measures, if it was necessary to evacuate from the terrace of the building, the helicopter would be used, but this did not happen. We have planned and in the following days, two more specialized cars for such difficult situations will be added to the fire services of Fier district. The state structures reacted in time to respond to a difficult situation" , he emphasized.
