By Decision no. 606, dated December 21, 2022, the prosecutor of Tirana, Mariola Mërtiri, the wife of the brother of the cocaine trafficker and landfill boss Mirel Mërtiri, spent 1 year in search.
From the comparison with dismissed prosecutors and judges, it turns out that prosecutor Mariola Mërtiri is the only case in the entire Vetting process, who was not dismissed because she is the sister-in-law of a drug trafficker, convicted in Italy and who is currently wanted internationally for landfills.
The surprise is that this prosecutor came out "clean" in the vetting, although the ONM representative, Williem Brouwer, made 17 contacts with criminals and benefits from them; as financial value from the trafficker brother-in-law; traveling abroad with him and other criminals; the husband's partnership with them and the purchase of 2 apartments from persons convicted of drug trafficking and money laundering through the construction of buildings.
But the vetting commission headed by Pamela Qirko, the sister of minister Belinda Balluku, ignored these facts from the investigation and did not dismiss the prosecutor Mariola Mërtiri, although the opinion against one of the 3 members was substantiated with evidence.
According to the chairman of the vetting, these connections with crime inside and outside the family do not violate the integrity of the prosecutor; but according to Law no. 76, dated 22.7.2016, prosecutors and judges are dismissed when they have family ties with a person from the world of crime, or when they have had even 1 single contact with them, especially when they hide these ties, as prosecutor Mariola Mërtiri has done .
Documents prove that the Directorate of Classified Information, the General Prosecutor's Office and SPAK were also in the bargain with the vetting commission of the first instance, in order not to dismiss the prosecutor Marjola Mërtiri.
For example, in their reports, these institutions have deceived, saying that the prosecutor Mariola Mërtiri has no acquaintances, contacts, family ties and exchange of interests with criminals, but the trafficker Mirel Mërtiri has her husband's brother; Stela Gugalljen has her sister-in-law, Klodian Zoton has her husband's employer at the landfill; She bought 2 apartments from traffickers and her husband's partners.
While SPAK, in the report dated June 2, 2022, has deceived as if Mirel Mërtiri is not under investigation and does not appear convicted; when in fact he was sentenced to prison for drug trafficking in Italy and has been under investigation since June 17, 2020, while on November 6, 2022 he was declared wanted.
On March 15, 2023, the ONM commissioner called the dismissal of prosecutor Mariola Mërtiri a serious violation and asked the second instance to disqualify her from justice.
But the power of millions of the brother-in-law of the cocaine boss and landfills, Mirel Mërtiri and Klodian Zoto, is also acting in the vetting commission of the second degree, where on January 16, 2024 there will be an appeal session against the prosecutor Mariola Mërtiri.
According to information from sources within the Special Appeal Board, it is said that the head of the assessment team, Ina Rama, is bargaining with the relator Rezarta Schuetz and the 4 members Sokol Çomo, Albana Shtylla and Mimoza Tasi, so that they do not dismiss the prosecutor Mariola Mërtiri.
