Ilir Shehu (Pasholli), a businessman with a criminal past in Italy and owner of the pharmaceutical companies Medicamenta and Mega Store, has been placed under investigation by Italian authorities for criminal activity involving drug smuggling and money laundering through his companies in Albania. The international investigation has been confirmed by reliable sources.

Confidential investigation sources have revealed that Ilir Shehu's criminal activity operates through a classic scheme of manipulating the import-export of drugs:
The purchase is made in Italy with an official invoice, where over 10 different pharmaceutical items are registered.
At the time of export to Albania, the documentation passes through Italian customs with its real value and weight.
Manipulation occurs at Albanian customs: while maintaining the value and weight, the list of items is shortened, declaring only 4 or 5 products, while the rest is introduced into the Albanian market without proper documentation.
Some of these drugs, mainly 'Enterogermina', are legalized for the Albanian market through another operator, Fufarma, in order to hide traces of the origin of the contraband.
In parallel, for activities outside the control of the partners, the company Mega Store is used, independently managed by Ilir Shehu.

Wealth built on criminal activity and lack of institutional control
Ilir Shehu turns out to have built two business buildings in Tirana, created with capital after his conviction for international drug trafficking in Italy. Furthermore, the Italian shareholder of Medicamenta is an Italian citizen under indictment for corruption in his own country.
Despite these facts, Shehu's companies have operated freely in the Albanian market, without being subject to any serious asset or legal control, even though the anti-mafia law provides for the seizure of assets for individuals convicted of international drug trafficking.
The current international investigation and the intervention of Italian authorities confirms suspicions that Albania has been used as a haven for pharmaceutical smuggling and money laundering activities.
