
In the morning, police and rescue teams were mobilized for a major operation at a company building in Mellrichstadt, Germany.
Employees of the Uberlandwerke Rhon company were attacked with a knife, while a suspect was arrested.
Police confirmed that one of the attackers died at the scene. According to Bild, the deceased had suffered multiple stab wounds to the upper body, including the neck.
According to initial information, a 21-year-old man attacked three company employees with a knife.
The suspect, a 21-year-old German national, has been arrested, a police spokesman said. It is not yet clear what his connection to the company is, nor what the motive for the attack might be.
"Caring for the injured is an absolute priority, as is clarifying the exact circumstances of the attack," the police spokesman continued. There was no danger to the population at any time.
Mellrichstadt is located in the Rhon-Grabfeld district (Bavaria), on the border with Thuringia. Uberlandwerk Rhon GmbH is an energy provider that supplies the Rhon region with electricity and other energy services. According to the company itself, it employs 220 people, of whom 20 are apprentices.
