The countdown has begun for NASA's Artemis II space mission, which will take four astronauts on a ten-day journey around the Moon, a venture that marks the resumption of manned missions to Earth's satellite.
The launch is scheduled for 2:24 a.m. on April 2 and will be broadcast live by NASA. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration is already live streaming the final preparations for the historic launch.
The mission crew, NASA astronauts Reid Weisman, Victor Glover and Christina Koch, and Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen, are based in the Operations and Control Building at NASA's Neil A. Armstrong Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
Crew members are focused on readiness and technical checks and remain in quarantine under strict health monitoring to ensure their fitness for launch. They are following a controlled sleep and meal schedule to maintain their energy and hydration.
After the mission was postponed due to technical issues, NASA is closely monitoring weather conditions. However, the weather forecast shows an 80% chance of favorable weather conditions for the planned launch time.
The Artemis II mission with the Orion spacecraft launched on the SLS rocket is a critical step towards returning humans to the Moon, as it will demonstrate whether the Orion spacecraft and its systems can safely transport humans to the Moon.
