The spectacular theft of Napoleon Bonaparte's historic jewels from the Louvre Museum in Paris will be turned into a Hollywood film, expected to bring to the screen one of the most sensational robberies in recent years.
According to French media, the cinematic project will be directed by director Romain Gavras and will be based on the investigative book "Main basse sur le Louvre", which is published on May 27.
The book was written by journalists Jean-Michel Décugis, Jérémie Pham-Lê and Nicolas-Charles Torrent and recounts in detail the robbery that occurred on October 19, 2025 in the museum's Apollo Gallery.
According to investigations, four people managed to enter the museum premises and steal nine historical jewels related to Napoleon, with an estimated value of around 88 million euros.
The operation, according to French authorities, lasted less than seven minutes and was carried out among hundreds of visitors without raising suspicion. Although police made several arrests after the robbery, the jewels have not yet been recovered.
The film is expected to be released in theaters in 2028, while the names of the actors or the official title of the production have not yet been revealed. Gavras will collaborate on the script with Simon Winter and Mourad Winter.
After the robbery, French authorities identified serious problems in the Louvre's security system, which led to the resignation of the museum's director, Laurence des Cars.
Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron has presented a modernization plan worth around 800 million euros for the famous museum, where a significant portion of the investment will focus on strengthening security as part of the "Louvre - New Renaissance" project.
