US President Donald Trump accused his predecessor, Barack Obama, of leaking classified information after the latter spoke about extraterrestrial life on a podcast.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump declared: “ He gave out classified information, he shouldn’t have done that .” Asked if that meant aliens existed, Trump replied that he didn’t know “whether they’re real or not,” but reiterated that Obama had released classified information. He added that he could “get the former president out of trouble” by declassifying the relevant materials.
Trump's comments came after Obama, during an interview with commentator Brian Tyler Cohen, was asked about extraterrestrial life and replied: "They're real." He immediately added that he hasn't seen them and that "they're not kept at Area 51."
The statement sparked backlash and speculation on social media, but Obama later clarified his stance. In a post on Instagram, he stressed that, statistically, the size of the universe makes it possible for life to exist elsewhere, but the distances between solar systems are so great that the likelihood of alien visits remains low. “ During my presidency, I have seen no evidence that extraterrestrials have made contact with us. Really! ” he wrote.
