Lawyer Kreshnik Spahiu states that the United States has appreciated the participation of Albania and Kosovo in the Peace Board, considering this as a clear political stance in the face of European pressure.
On the "Frontline" show on Report TV, Spahiu said that there are several elements that, according to him, have not been fully made visible in the public debate.
" There are four moments that are somewhat invisible and that have not been analyzed enough. First, Washington has highly appreciated the fact that Albania and Kosovo have faced and resisted extraordinary European pressure against their participation in the Peace Board and in Washington. There has been a clear stance from some European Union countries that have boycotted this initiative and have demanded that both Albania and Kosovo follow the same line. But Tirana and Pristina chose to be present at an important political moment, despite being considered part of the European space ," Spahiu said.
According to him, following the visit of Prime Minister Edi Rama and the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, to Washington, lobbying has begun for a possible visit by the American president to the region.
" Second, there is strong lobbying that, after Osman and Rama's visit to Washington, President Donald Trump visit Tirana and Pristina. There is very strong lobbying in this direction and there are real chances that in the near future we will have a visit by President Trump to Albania and Kosovo. This would be interpreted as an appreciation for the fact that Albanians are considered among the most pro-American nations in Europe ," he stated.
Spahiu also spoke about the issue of former KLA leaders, linking it to recent diplomatic developments.
" Thirdly, we are dealing with a lobbying related to the release of KLA leaders. Prime Minister Edi Rama's speech at the Peace Board was not accidental. He was prepared with American advisors and aimed to use a different approach from the European one to this issue. Europe had a more critical approach and intervened in the processes that led to the conviction of KLA leaders, while the American approach, in my opinion, is more critical of this European positioning ," said the lawyer.
Finally, he focused on Albania's possible contribution to international missions, mentioning the alternatives that, according to him, have been presented to Tirana.
" Fourth, Albania has been faced with an alternative: either to contribute financially, or to provide human resources. So, to choose between payment and engagement with troops. I think that the choice to contribute with human resources is more reasonable. It is right and justified for Albania to participate with troops in Gaza, within the framework of international commitments ," concluded Spahiu.
