"The ceasefire in Lebanon was never promised", JD Vance: Iran open to

United States Vice President JD Vance stated that the Iranian government has expressed a willingness to negotiate with Washington, during a statement to reporters in Hungary before departing on Air Force Two.

" What's happening on the ground in Iran is that there is, clearly, a government position to negotiate with the United States of America ," Vance said.

He added that President Donald Trump intends to send the American negotiating team to Pakistan to hold talks that he described as "good faith negotiations."

At the same time, Vance criticized anonymous sources publishing information about the situation, describing them as "crazy people on the edge" who act for propaganda, out of shame or because of dissatisfaction with developments.

The vice president also stated that the United States had achieved military objectives on Iranian territory, without providing further details.

Regarding the situation in Lebanon, Vance stressed that the US has never promised to include the country in a ceasefire, suggesting that such a perception may exist on the Iranian side. He warned that if Iran chooses to obstruct negotiations on Lebanon, this would be a decision on their part, which he said would be wrong.

In response to questions about the Strait of Hormuz, Vance said there are signs it is reopening. However, Iranian officials dispute this assessment and insist the strait remains closed. Earlier, Iranian authorities warned that any ship passing through the area without permission would be “targeted and destroyed.”

Regarding the negotiation process, Vance said that there is a broad basis of agreement between the US and Iran, despite controversial points.

He also referred to a post by the speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who had stated on the social network X that three of the ten points proposed by Iran have been "openly and clearly violated," including a proposed ceasefire in Lebanon.

Vance interpreted this as a positive signal, arguing that the existence of only three points of disagreement indicates a broader agreement on the substance. However, he rejected some of Ghalibaf's claims.

" I actually wonder how good he is at understanding English, because some of the things he said didn't make sense in the context of the negotiations we had ," Vance said.

He described the Lebanon issue as a "reasonable misunderstanding," adding that ceasefires are complex processes and often involve changes during implementation.
